Kalidou Koulibaly: What can Chelsea expect from Napoli titan after long-awaited Premier League move?

Giandomenico Costi, a former assistant sporting director at Napoli, said of Chelsea’s acquisition of Kalidou Koulibaly: “He’s undoubtedly among the top center backs around.” He has great physical strength. He’ll fit in perfectly in England, where it’s crucial in the Premier League.

After years of rumors about moving to England, Kalidou Koulibaly has now officially signed with the Premier League, and it’s no accident that English clubs have pursued him for so long.

Koulibaly was previously referred to as one of the best defenders he had ever worked with by a former manager, Carlo Ancelotti. High praise comes from a man who has coached John Terry of Chelsea, Paolo Maldini, Fabio Cannavaro, Sergio Ramos, and others.

He went from being a little-known center-back from Genk to one of the best players in the world in his position in eight years at Napoli under Ancelotti and others. It’s understandable that English teams have pursued him for so long given their knowledge of his potential for the Premier League.

Koulibaly, who is now 31 and searching for a trophy legacy in his final years of play, has finally caved in to pressure and turned down a new contract in Naples in order to join Thomas Tuchel in the Premier League and rebuild Chelsea’s defense. Tuchel may have found the ideal replacement to carry on with the Blues’ resolute defense, which has defined them under his leadership.

His raw defensive numbers haven’t always lived up to his reputation in Naples and around Italy; Napoli supporters refer to him as “K2” and “The Wall” interchangeably. After Lorenzo Insigne left the team earlier this summer, he was generally expected to take over as captain. In the days leading up to his move to London, the national press even referred to him as a “defensive dam.”

Giandomenico Costi, who worked as Cristiano Giuntoli’s assistant at Napoli up until last year, told Sky Sports that Koulibaly’s transfer had given Chelsea access to one of the best defenders in the entire world.

He declared, “He’s undoubtedly one of the best center backs out there.” He has great physical strength. He will fit in perfectly in England since it’s so significant in the Premier League, which is a little different from Italy.

“He has steadily advanced each year while at Napoli to reach the point where he is now when he is a complete defender.

“When you play for one of the best clubs in the world, especially with the intensity of the Premier League, you have to be prepared to defend one-on-one against the best players in case you get caught out on the break. He possesses the strength, speed, and position to complete the task.

“He made year-by-year progress at Napoli to reach the point where he is now, where he is the complete defense.

“With the intensity of the Premier League, it is extremely important to be able to defend one-on-one against the best players when you play for one of the finest clubs in the world. Pace, strength, and positioning are all things he has to do it.

He was warned in no uncertain terms to keep it simple at the elite level after coming from the Belgian top flight where his opponents were much less inclined to press him into mistakes. This is a lesson he has not forgotten.

“Rafa locked me in a room with the head of video analysis while he played back all of my standout plays for me. brilliant passes, dribbling, sliding tackles, “To The Players Tribune, he stated.

The next portion is difficult to understand, but he said that I was able to recover the ball due to my power and that I would have had problems if my opponent had been more intelligent.

Not all athletes would be able to handle such criticism well, but Koulibaly’s ascent is widely credited to his drive for improvement.

When he joins Chelsea for their preseason US tour, despite being in his 30s and having a renowned international career, he will be anxious to impress both Tuchel and his teammates.

They will like training him, according to Costi. He sets a good example. Although he won’t be yelling at anyone in the locker room, he will show that he is a leader by acting appropriately on the field.

He’s a wonderful dude, too. He speaks like a fan because he has truly assimilated into the Napoli way of life. They have come to love him since he has proven to be a beautiful person as well as a great defender during his time there.

The positive perception of Koulibaly’s character has increased significantly as a result of his charitable endeavors. Last year, he spent the off-season back in Senegal where he organized the chartering of an Italian ship loaded with containers with medical equipment, medication, and even two ambulances.

He has integrated himself into both the club’s and the city’s cultures and formed such a strong link with both that earlier this week, manager Luciano Spalletti declared that if his transfer to Chelsea went through, the club would “never stop praising” him.

Since he has only won one Italian Super Cup and one Coppa Italia medal in eight years in Serie A, this shared commitment has kept him at Napoli for longer than many would have anticipated. In that sky blue outfit, he had hoped to win a number of trophies, but something had to give.

Koulibaly firmly held the goal to win in his mind as he rejected the offer of a new contract in Naples last month. He has undoubtedly given himself a shot at Chelsea, champions of the Champions League a year ago and finalists in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in 2022.

Although he is already in his 30s when he joins Stamford Bridge, his drive and professionalism may give him more time than his age would indicate to fulfill his goals. These qualities may also be the reason the Blues were willing to spend more than £30 million on a player who was supposedly in his late 30s and was about to enter the final year of his contract.

Costi stated, “I believe he has another five to six years in him.” “He finds it simple. Kalidou is quite well-behaved; he abstains from bad eating and drinking, and he gets to bed on time.”

Chelsea’s summer business was threatened by the commotion surrounding Roman Abramovich’s contentious departure earlier this year, but it now appears to be well behind them with Raheem Sterling and Koulibaly through the door with more incomings on the way.

With three weeks left before the start of the new season, if Tuchel was battling insomnia at the beginning of the summer, he may now be sleeping as peacefully as his new center-back.

What do you think?
